The original Apple Tree was a small Victorian drinking shop with its entrance on King’s Arms Lane. It was one of the first pubs brought under the Scheme in July 1916, along with The Bowling Green, The Malt Shovel (now Adriano’s restaurant opposite the Civic Centre) and The Boardroom. The original building was demolished and replaced with a Harry Redfern design in 1927 that stands today under the same name. It has undergone many changes but, upstairs, it remains in its original state.
