St Nicholas Arms – main

Posted · Add Comment

By 1920 it became apparent that there was a problem with overcrowding in the pubs at the lower end of Botchergate. To encourage more sensible drinking, one of the tasks of the Control Board was to improve conditions so they set about looking to provide another pub. They settled on St Nicholas View—a fine property dating back to the early nineteenth century. Despite a petition signed by 900 residents objecting to the plans, the St Nicholas Arms was opened in 1921.
